Resiliency Groups
This year, the CPW is rolling out it’s resident resiliency group program, Flourish through CREATION Health. The CPW developed this initiative to help residents retain energy and engagement, create balance, develop resiliency and nurture all facets of wellbeing.
All AdventHealth residents will participate in this program between August and November 2018. Residents will attend groups every other week, for 6 weeks. Curriculum and group topics were informed by CREATION Health’s 8 principles of wellness. Topics covered over the 6 weeks include Choice, Trust, Interpersonal Relationships, and Outlook.

Frequently Asked Questions
How do I sign-up/register for my Flourish group?
The video below will walk you through the registration process:
What is discussed during these groups?
Each group session, you will learn about the research-driven components of the CREATION Health wellness philosophy. We will take a deep-dive into specific principles, in order to facilitate integration of knowledge and make skills applicable to your daily lives. You will participate in reflection exercises designed to reinforce resiliency skills related to mindful living, appreciative inquiry, and active listening. The purpose of these small group discussions is to practice deep listening with one another, while reflecting on impactful memories or experiences. This program is deigned to encourage self-disclosure in a safe space, in order to feel heard, understood, connected, and encouraged. Although there are guiding topics to inform the structure of each group, there is opportunity for discussion, connection, experiential activities and personal sharing.
Do I have to share personal information?
No. You have the choice to share or not share, at any level you feel comfortable. Self-disclosure is a key component to the efficacy of group work, however, it is never mandatory. The most important thing for us and your fellow group members is having a safe, trusting environment. One thing we know to be true, is that learning occurs when we move slightly beyond our comfort zone. So, to get the most of this group experience, you may challenge yourself at times in your level of sharing. This adds to the richness of the experience for you and your fellow group members. But, this is ALWAYS voluntary and at your own pace.
Why do I have to do this group?
In July 2016, ACGME released new standards and requirements related to resident wellbeing. In response to these requirements, Florida Hospital GME is participating in a nation-wide effort to create and test programming in this area. The expanded requirements reflect the need and importance for programs to deal with resident wellbeing at a systemic level. These new requirements indicate that programs and sponsoring institutions have the same responsibility to address physician self-care as they do to ensure other aspects of resident competence.
So, The Center for Physician Wellbeing, in collaboration with The Center for CREATION Health Research, have designed a program that reflects current research and literature recommendations on ways to enhance resident resiliency and self-care. “Flourish” was designed specifically as a different kind of wellbeing initiative, one that intentionally goes beyond a format that just imparts information. The “curative” elements of this initiative are based on what the literature does recommend as helpful:
Will information I share get back to my program/supervisors?
No. As facilitators we are ethically and legally bound by confidentiality. We do not discuss what happens in the group. Although we cannot guarantee other group member’s confidentiality the way we can guarantee our own, we STRONGLY encourage group members to agree to confidentiality, and we make this a group rule. The only limitations to confidentiality include concern that you may harm yourself or someone else, suspicion of abuse or court order.
Is this a therapy group?
No. This group is what we call a psychoeducation group. We are not providing counseling or therapy. We are using the theory and foundations of group process to create an environment of safety, connection, interpersonal learning, reflection, and growth.
Can I share what happens in my group with anyone else other than my group members?
Because of our emphasis on confidentiality, we ask that you not share other members disclosures with anyone. However, we do encourage you to share with your loved ones your own experience and learning as your moving through this group experience.
Who do I contact if I have questions in between or after sessions?
You can feel free to contact your group facilitator(s) at any time. If you cannot get your question answered, you may also contact the CPW directly at 407-303-9674 and ask for Mandi Bailey or email her at amanda.bailey@flhosp.org.
Where's My Group?
Your group time and location will be sent to you in a confirmation email after you complete registration. If you have questions about your group location, please email Mandi Bailey at amanda.bailey@adventhealth.com.
